About this Event
Discover why Florida is considered an orchid hotspot and how you can help conserve and enjoy native orchids in your own landscape. In this one-hour presentation, Broward County Master Gardener Volunteers will introduce you to some of our most distinctive native orchids, share UF/IFAS-based tips for growing suitable species at home, and highlight local efforts to restore orchids in urban yards and public spaces. There will be time for any and all orchid questions! Many hard-to-find native orchids will be available for purchase.
Highlights:
- Botany: What makes orchids unique? Why is Florida an orchid hotspot?
- Conservation: Why are orchids threatened? How can we help preserve them for the future?
- Broward County Native Orchids: Which native orchids grow well in Broward County? Where can you see them in the wild?
- Growing at home: Learn how to mount orchids in trees and plant them in the ground in your garden.
