Event Information

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Women’s Liberation Conference that was held at James Gillespie’s High School in Edinburgh, which is an important part of the history of the Women’s Liberation Movement in Scotland as well as Edinburgh’s local history.

To celebrate this important milestone, GENDER.ED, Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) and Women's History Scotland are leading and facilitating a daytime workshop for the students of James Gillespie’s High School on 21 June, which will be followed by an evening celebration event.

We are therefore delighted to invite you to the evening event as part of the exciting “Women’s Liberation: 50 Years On” project, which will take place at James Gillespie’s High School from 5.30pm – 7.00pm on Friday 21 June. This event will include a reception, as well as a panel discussion focusing on Legal and Financial Independence of Women. This is a free event and is open to everyone!

Zoe Fairbairns

Zoe is a feminist author, poet and journalist, who was involved in the women’s movement in the 1970s (and St Andrews Women’s Liberation Group).

Rebecca is the Research & Policy Lead for the Young Women’s Movement, which is Scotland’s national organisation for young women and girls’ leadership and rights.

This is a free event, which means we overbook to allow for no-shows and to avoid empty seats. While we generally do not have to turn people away, this does mean we cannot guarantee everyone a place. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis.
