Women’s Health and Alzheimer’s Disease: Investigating the Critical Window of Menopause

Almost two-thirds of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease are women, yet the reasons behind this disparity remain unclear. In this interactive presentation, MSc/MD student Jasper Crockford will explore what current research is uncovering about the relationship between the menopause transition —including changes in estrogen levels, menopause symptoms, and menopause hormone therapy use —and Alzheimer’s disease risk and resilience. The session aims to spark an engaging and empowering conversation about menopause as a critical window in women’s health that may hold important clues to understanding risk and resilience in Alzheimer’s disease.

About Jasper Crockford:

Jasper Crockford is a Medical Science MSc/MD student in the Leaders in Medicine program at the University of Calgary. Her research focuses on how menopausal experiences —including changes in estrogen, menopause symptoms, and hormone therapy use— may influence risk and resilience for Alzheimer disease. Jasper is a recipient of the Alberta SPOR SUPPORT Unit (AbSPORU) Graduate Studentship, the CIHR Canadian Graduate Scholarship, the Canadian Federation of University Women Award, and the Government of Alberta Women in STEM Scholarship.
