About this Event
Two friends and musicians, Dorota Matejová (Slovakia) and Kat Carson (UK/NL) who usually perform in the early music ensemble Nymphes et Monstres, come together in an intimate setting combining folk songs from their home countries Slovakia and Britain. The chosen songs are all “Women´s Words”; songs written from the perspective of female figures, often singing about the simple but deep, and sad but beautiful parts of life: love, nature, solitude and human connection. These songs have specific poetic styles and melodies typical to the folk traditions of these two countries. Dorota and Kat will perform in their native languages, intertwining them with instrumental improvisation upon the songs´ themes. After the performance, join us for a folk jam—bring an instrument, your voice, and some folk songs!
Dorota Matejová is a musician, traverso & flute player, physical performer and poet. She performs in various contexts of early music, contemporary & experimental music, physical theater and interdisciplinary performance. Her poetry reveals her love for language while reflecting her personal experiences & observations of self, humans and life. She makes music-movement-poetry acts & pieces, enjoying to de-construct and re-define the traditional performance formats and finding her own ways of playing music, moving and being ´on stage´. She is a member of the early music ensemble Nymphes et Monstres, former member of an experimental early music duo DOLU ensemble, and various formations within the improvisation scene. She regularly collaborates with the singer Kat Carson (Nymphes et Monstres), harpsichordist Christina Kwon, cellist Lucija Gregov and has an ongoing collaboration with the graphic designer Silver J. Bosch with whom they are making Dorota´s first poetry book.
