Imbolc (Gaelic for "in the belly") is also known as Candlemas, the Festival of Lights, or the Feast of St. Brigid. At this midpoint between the Winter Solstice and Vernal Equinox, we begin to see the first signs of life and the promise of Spring! At this time of the year we connect with the archetype of the triple Goddess Brigid (Ireland), also known as Bride (Scotland) or Brigantia (England). She represents the ultimate domestic Goddess, keeper of the sacred hearth flame and the patroness of healers (especially midwives), poets, and craft workers. Inspiration is the spark of her passion and we drink at her sacred well of women's wisdom, hope, and renewal.
We visit this natural spring to consecrate our bodies and respectfully collect the sacred waters that emerge from deep within the Earth. This is our annual dedication and honoring rite. As an all encompassing Goddess, Brigid holds the container as we make our dedications for the year upon Nature’s altar.
If you wish to join us in this rite, please spend time meditating and reflecting on the Goddess, Saint, Angel, Element, Animal, or Aspect that calls to you. You are also welcome to simply hold space, bear witness, and partake of the healing waters.
Brigid's Spring is easily accessible and only a few short steps from the road, but parking is limited so we suggest that women gather at the Rite Aid on Highway 9 in Felton at 1:30 to carpool. We will leave for the spring promptly at 1:45.
