About This Trip

The Gold Dust Trail (considered one of Breck’s “Secret Rides”) will take attendees on singletrack cutting through the Mosquito Range near the partially-inhabited, fully-funky ghost town of Como. The trail is located just over the top of Boreas Pass from Breckenridge, and has the distinction of serving as a short portion of the Tour Divide mountain bike route! While this trail can easily be self-shuttled using Boreas Pass road, most riders choose to pedal it as a loop. We are going to do a little of both!

We’ll set up a basecamp, then use our private shuttle to access two days of extraordinary riding. Starting in the historical mining town of Como, we will ascend the “Old Boreas Pass Railroad Grade” until we reach the Pass, where we will spend two days riding around our mountain basecamp. This is a fun, fast, rocky-at-times, furious descent with little of everything, an old flume, pine-needle forest bed, a rock garden and high-quality single-track will make for a great couple of rides. Throw in some excellent views of the South Park’s terrain from the top with mountain meadows full of summer wildflowers as well as gorgeous Aspens that are full of color in the fall.

Our singletrack begins descending immediately, dropping quickly down the mountainside, and funneling into an old drainage flume that has turned into a flowy mountain bike luge. Over the rest of the ride we will encounter sections that vary from a steep, rocky, and loose, which descends into multiple mellow ripper grades punctuated by one technical, rocky ridge (while rideable, this one section is easily walkable. Once below the extremely rocky portion, that intermediate singletrack flavor takes over in full-force, flowing quickly down the mountainside through pines, and ending in a gorgeous aspen grove.
