For our first book club meeting of the year, we will be reading and discussing 'Nervous Conditions' by Tsitsi Dangarembga. Nervous Conditions was the recipient of the 1989 Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Fiction, and explores themes of gender and colonialism. The novel tells the story of a Rhodesian girl's journey in pursuit of education from impoverished homestead to missionary school and finally to private Catholic school.
