Learn about the historical struggle for information on reproductive rights & the fight against censorship with our new curriculum guide.
About this Event

The fight for information about reproductive rights has been an enduring one. Learn how Anthony Comstock’s vision of censorship had a lasting impact on American society and how women of the 19th and 20th centuries fought back by demanding greater freedoms in their political and economic lives. Explore this case study and others in Reading Dangerously: Censorship and the Freedom to Read in 20th-Century America, a new curriculum guide developed by NYPL’s Center for Educators and Schools, which includes tips for teaching with primary documents, ready-to-use discussion questions and activities, and historical context essays—designed to help teachers support middle- and high-school students on exploring the history of censorship. Plus, explore Banned: Censorship and the Freedom to Read, the Library’s new online exhibition that highlights key conflicts over censorship: nypl.org/censorship
