Join us as we walk around Bradford-on-Avon, Iford Manor and along the river at Freshford.
About this Event

Join us for a quintessential English countryside walk along rivers, canals, through woodland, over rolling fields and through picturesque villages. We will start in Bradford-on-Avon, a historical town with a canal and river running through it, and head over fields and through woodland to Westwood where we will walk past Iford Manor. We will walk through open fields and through woodland to Freshford where we will then continue on along the river to Avoncliff where we will see the amazing aquaduct. The final stretch is along the canal and past the old Tithe Barn before making our way back to the station car park where our hike will end.

Distance: 13km / 8 miles

Time: ~5 hours (inc stops)

Elevation: 200m

Grade: Intermediate (find out more about our grades here)

Terrain: A mixture of gravel tracks, grassland, muddy trails and steps uphill.

About your guide:

Hi I'm Alice, qualified mountain leader and CEO of The Adventure Girls Club. I'm passionate about reconnecting women back nature through adventure and outdoor skills. I set up the club because I didn't feel like I belonged in the outdoor community and I wanted to create a safe space for women like me to head out and enjoy the outdoors in their own way. I love meeting all the lush people who come along to our events and it's best feeling seeing everyone come away feeling more connected to nature and making connections with other like-minded women too.

Transport:

By Car: We will meet at Bradford-on-Avon Train station Car park here. Park in zone B as this is all day. The car park can fill up quickly so I'd recommend arriving early.

By train/bus: We will meet by the train station and there are direct trains from Bristol, Bath and surrounding towns. Coming from London, you can change at Westbury.

Liftshare: It would be great to liftshare as much as possible, if you need a lift or can offer someone a lift please post in the lift share WhatsApp group here.

What to bring:

  • Hiking boots (the route can be very muddy)
  • Plenty of snacks and a packed lunch
  • Water (at least 1 litre)
  • Waterproofs/warm layers/hat/gloves
  • Small first aid kit with personal Medic*tion
  • A day rucksack to put water, lunch and layers in.

Consent Form:

If you are booked onto the hike please fill in one of these forms no later than the night before. You will not be allowed to partake in the hike unless you have filled out this form. I will send out a reminder 2 days before the event.

Toilets:

There are toilets at the beginning of the hike but apart from that you will have to embrace what I like to call a 'wild wee'! Luckily, the walk has a few hidden spots for this. If you need to go, just tell someone in the group and hang back for some privacy.

Safety:

I like to make these hikes as enjoyable as possible for everyone, so I keep a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on these hikes, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns.

I am a Qualified Mountain Leader and I am level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so I will be on hand in case of an emergency.

Dogs:

Dogs are more than welcome on my hikes, however, there is livestock around and potentially other dogs, so they will need to stay on a lead for parts of it. I cannot guarantee that every stile is suitable for dogs and the hikes may have steep cliff edges which may not be suitable for dogs.

Refund Policy

Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled. If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let me know if you do so.
