Women of Pasadena Ride

DID YOU KNOW that the first female African-American mayor of a U.S. city larger than 100,000 people was Loretta Thompson-Glickman, mayor of Pasadena from 1982 to 1984? Or that the World War I memorial sculpture in Memorial Park was created by artist Theodora Alice Ruggles Kitson, who generally used her first initials instead of her first name (for obvious reasons).

Take a ride around Pasadena and visit the school Octavia Butler attended (and the bookstore her work inspired), a sculpture garden created by a notable woman landscape architect, and other historic spots. We’ll finish the afternoon with treats at a woman-owned business in Old Pasadena.

Meet at 2:00 pm at Pasadena City Hall, 100 Garfield Avenue. Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring water (and snacks if you might need them). Our ride will be 11.3 miles, with 499 feet of climbing (most of it gradual but with a couple of bigger hills, at Arroyo as we come out of the Rose Bowl area and on Howard near Fair Oaks).

Riders of all abilities AND GENDERS are welcome! Kids are welcome as long as they can ride a bike without training wheels and maintain a social pace around 10 MPH. No one will be dropped! All participants should bring a bike in good working order and a spare tube that fits their tires (e-bikes are welcome). There will be a mechanic on the ride.

We recommend helmets for everyone. Helmets are required by law for anyone under 18.
