Women, Knights, Voices & Love: Orlando Furioso in Words and Music

Led by Renaissance and Baroque academic, Julie Robarts, experience the love, passion, adventure, war and madness of Ludovico Ariosto’s epic poem, Orlando Furioso (“The madness of Orlando”), and readings of other Renaissance works.

The story of Orlando Furioso will be brought to life in the form of madrigals and arias, transforming the text into a musical performance.

A selection of fascinating texts from our Rare Books Collection, including items from the John Emmerson Collection, will also be on display.

This event will include Auslan interpretation.

About Julie Robarts

Dr Julie Robarts has a Bachelor of Arts in Italian language and early modern history, and a master's degree and PhD in Italian Studies. Her research focusses on the ways in which gender and power intersect in the production, reception, and transmission of literature, poetry and music by women and men in Renaissance and Baroque Italy.

About Melbourne Chamber Choir

Melbourne Chamber Choir has been a distinguished contributor to the Melbourne choral scene for more than thirty years. The choir is a small, four-part choir that prides itself on performing chamber works from across the musical ages, from Medieval to contemporary times. Musical Director Dr David Kram is a conductor, opera coach, and musicologist with many years of experience across a wide range of operatic and symphonic repertoire.

About Grace Collivet

Grace Collivet is a classical soprano drawn to work rich in catharsis and artistic honesty. She is an Emerging Artist with the Australian Contemporary Opera Company, with whom she recently performed the title role in Will Todd's opera of Alice in Wonderland. Grace's previous soloist performance repertoire includes Wolf's Lieder der Mignon, Mozart’s Vesperae Solemnes de Confessor, and Pergolesi Stabat Mater. She is a graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and of 16th St Actors studio, and has ambitions to further her career in Europe.
