W.O.M.B. - Women's Only Movement & Bonfire (Ecstatic Dance)
About this Event
W.O.M.B. - Women's Only Movement & Bonfire
Come dance your feelings, then warm yourself by the fire and embrace the connective power of time with other women in movement and sharing!
W.O.M.B is an ecstatic dance followed by a cozy time around the (indoor) bonfire with tea and sharing. You'll leave invigorated, connected and ALIVE!
W.O.M.B. is a space for you as a woman to be fully here: sweaty and soft, silly and serious, loud and quiet, connected and completely yourself....
Sunday, 7 pm - 9 pm. Please arrive on time so we can begin as a group!
What to Wear? Wear what you feel good to dance in! Sometimes this looks like yoga pants; sometimes it's lingerie. YOU decide. This is a woman's only space.
What is an indoor bonfire? You'll have to come to see! (But for real, keep reading if you really, really, really have to know....... okay, stop reading here if you want to be delightfully surprised... last chance.... we'll be sipping tea and sitting around a circle of twinkle lights!)
Is this a hippy event? While ecstatic dance is sometimes surrounded by other ritual and "hippy" things (lol!), there is no cerememy during W.O.M.B other than what YOUR body creates when you dance. We dance with no speaking for an hour, then sit with tea and conversation around the bonfire. Women's only times are special, and we're building a community of care!
Your Facilitator Alexis Wild is an artist, teacher, community builder, and lifelong explorer of what it means to be human.
Through Wild Permission, Alexis creates spaces where people can step outside of the roles and expectations they usually carry and reconnect with their bodies, creativity, play, and each other.
Her work lives at the intersection of art, embodiment, movement, ritual, and community. She is less interested in telling people how they should experience something and much more interested in creating the conditions for people to discover what is already alive inside them.
For WOMB, Alexis brings together her love of ecstatic movement, honest conversation, playful connection, and creating spaces where people can exhale and be fully themselves.
She’ll hold the container. You bring yourself. www.alexiswild.com
Dance Guidelines
WOMB follows the guidelines created for The Movement/Dance Church. This event is created for free expression, connection, and deep inner exploration through dance in London, Ontario. To maintain a safe and respectful environment, we ask everyone to follow these guidelines:
1. Respect the Space and Each Other
- No Shoes: We dance barefoot or in soft, non-marking footwear. It helps us stay grounded and connected. There is a change room and a cubby storage room upstairs, and a bathroom downstairs. If you need to wear shoes for a medical reason, please make sure they are clean.
- Silent Dance Floor: We practice silence on the dance floor to honor the collective experience. Conversations are welcome before or after the dance. No talking allowed during the dance please. This includes motioning to someone else, whispering in an ear, praising someone’s dancing, etc.
- Consent is Essential: Connection with others should be by mutual agreement. Eye contact or a gentle nod can invite connection, but a simple shake of the head means “no, thank you.”
- Scent Free Space: Many of our attendees are scent-sensitive. Please avoid wearing scented products of any type to The Movement.
2. No Substances or Electronics
- Substance-Free Zone: To support full presence and authentic connection, we ask that you come substance-free – no alcohol or drugs.
- No Phones, No Cameras: Please leave technology off the dance floor. This is a time to unplug and be fully present. No photos/video at any time!
3. Freedom of Expression Within Boundaries
- Dance However YOU Feel: The Movement is a judgment-free zone! Express yourself in ways that feel right, whether that means flowing slow and steady or stomping things up! Please be mindful of others’ space and safety.
- Honor Physical Boundaries: High-energy movements are welcome but watch for those around you to avoid accidental contact.
4. Stay in the Space and Finish with the Group
- Event Container: Plan to stay with us for the whole event, so that you get the experience of the build and fall of the music list, and so that we stay in the flow of dance together as a group.
- Grounding Silence: Dance ends with 5 minutes of silence and a fairy twinkle to bring us back to the room. For WOMB, we end with tea and an indoor bonfire!
5. Practice Mindfulness
- Be Present: Breathe deeply, listen to the music, and let your body lead the way. Notice how you feel moment to moment, and be brave to follow whatever comes next.
- No Expectations: This is a place for exploration. Let go of expectations, embrace the unknown, and just allow yourself to be.
6. Respect the Music and the Flow
- Music Curation: Our playlist is thoughtfully created to guide your journey. Let the rhythms take you to unexpected places and keep dancing until the last beat fades. Here’s a sample playlist!
7. Health and Safety
- Stay Home if You’re Unwell: For the well-being of our community, please take care of yourself and return when you’re feeling well.
- Hydrate and Rest: Feel free to take breaks and hydrate as needed. Water bottles are welcome in the main room. The back room can be used at any time if you need a quiet, dark area for a break.
