About this Event
Join us for our annual Pre-Art Basel gathering, with a special screening of "The Disappearance of Miss Scott", which explores Hazel Scott's ascent as a jazz artist and Hollywood star, making her the first Black American to host her own television show. A civil rights pioneer, she confronted the Red Scare, risking her career for equality. Married to Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., she was among the highest-paid actresses in the 1940s. The Women of Color Empowerment Institute, Inc., actively preserves her legacy, featuring insights from the Emmy-award-winning and Grammy-nominated Producer/Director and Ms. Scott's son, Adam Clayton Powell III.
