Wakefield Memorial High School Theater Arts is proud to announce its spring musical: THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE. Performances will be on Thursday, May 9; Friday, May 10; and Saturday, May 11 at 7pm at The Savings Bank Theatre at Wakefield Memorial High School (60 Farm Street, Wakefield MA 01880). Tickets are $10. Tickets are available at www.wakefieldtheater.org and will be available at the door 30 minutes before the show.“Winner of the Tony and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced, wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience.
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box.

“Spelling Bee” stars Mario Longo (William Barfee), Alex Morton (Olive Ostrovsky), Elizabeth Police (Rona Lisa Peretti), Hailey Allocco (Marcy Park), Morgan Wallace (Mitch Mahoney), Lucy Spry (Logainne Schwartzandgrubeniere), Brendan Leane (Leaf Coneybear), Ben Blackstone (Chip Tolentino), and Abby Stratton (Vice Principal Panch).
The production is managed by Sam Brudnick. Costumes, hair, and make up design are coordinated by Ellie Leon with support from Carina Cataldo and Kimber Rudy. Set design is directed by Audrey Dick. Lighting design is by Erin Caldo. Props are managed by Ariel Shaw. Additional students involved include Maggie Fournier, Declan Blair, Jhalak Patel, Naya Chankhour, and Lucy Whalen.
The production is directed by Will Karvouniaris with music direction by Ana Morel and choreography by Becky Jo Roland. Technical support is provided by J&A Audio and Lighting, LLC.
