About this Event
Lecture Summary:
In April 1881, Constable Arthur Greene arrested a drunk and disorderly sailor named Ralph Stewart in front of the Gympie Hotel on the corner of Albert and Mary Streets, Brisbane. After a brief struggle, Stewart fled up Mary Street with Constable Greene in close pursuit. In the pursuit, three shots were fired at Constable Greene before he eventually overpowered Stewart. Justice was set to take its natural course when there was a political intervention in the matter that created great controversy at the time.
In this dramatic and insightful talk by Robert Cochrane, a retired Queensland Police Officer, you will hear about the life and times of a rough and tough Irish street copper. The highs and the lows of life on the beat.
