We are asking for your support in attending the upcoming Redistricting Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 6th at 5:30 pm at Berkeley Middle School, 1118 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg.
We want to see and hear from people from every school! Community members, family members, staff, and kids should come to make their voices and concerns heard! Make and bring posters to show your support of redistricting with equity.
We will post a list of suggested talking points. Please add your own school and situation as well. Come early to fill out your comment card to hand in before the meeting starts.
We want WJCC to demonstrate how the proposed changes will affect students and schools before decisions are final. We have asked Dr. Keever and the School Board for a school-by-school equity impact analysis to establish a baseline for each school and evaluate how each proposed map would affect existing achievement gaps, socioeconomic and racial diversity, English-language learners, staffing ratios, and special education needs. Most importantly, we would like to understand whether each proposed map reduces, maintains, or exacerbates existing inequities. Additionally, we want a clear plan for how the division will support a larger concentration of high needs students and continue to promote an equitable education and equitable working conditions for teachers across the division. We will be asking for these things again during the public comment section of the school board meeting as well as specific areas of concern.
