Synopsis
In the remote Peruvian Andes, Willka and Phaxsi, an elderly Aymara couple, live surrounded by mountains, silence and the rhythms of their ancestral world. Their only son has left for the city, and they continue to wait for his return while facing the hardships of isolation and old age. Through breathtaking landscapes and an intimate portrait of daily life, Wiñaypacha reflects on family, abandonment, tradition and the enduring hope of reunion.
Directed by Óscar Catacora, Wiñaypacha won Best Debut Feature, the Mayahuel Award for Best Photography and the FEISAL Award for Best Director at the Guadalajara International Film Festival. It was also selected as Peru’s official submission for the 91st Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
