A special screening and discussion on extreme heat, labor rights, and the frontline movement to protect outdoor workers.
About this Event

Extreme heat is rapidly becoming one of the most dangerous working conditions in the United States. Without Shade Without Rest, a new documentary produced by Six Eye Films, follows the workers and organizers fighting to secure life-saving heat protections for outdoor laborers in Florida.

Set against the backdrop of the hottest year on record, the film traces the growing movement to protect farmworkers whose labor sustains the nation’s food system but who often face dangerous conditions in the fields. Through the work of two frontline organizations—the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and WeCount!—the documentary captures an urgent struggle for safety, dignity, and accountability in the face of intensifying climate extremes.

Join WeCount!, the Earth Rights Research & Action (TERRA) Clinic at NYU Law, and the NYU Law Latinx Rights Scholarship Program for this special screening and conversation about the movement for heat protections and what it reveals about how workers organize for safety and justice in a warming world.

Following the screening, please join us for a discussion and Q&A with:

• Oscar Londoño, Executive Director, WeCount!

• Ashley Otilia Nemeth, Adjunct Professor of Clinical Law, Earth Rights Research & Action (TERRA) Clinic and Director of Programs, NYU Law Climate Accelerator

Additional speakers to be announced

The conversation will also highlight WeCount!’s newest initiative, Planting Justice, which seeks to expand worker-driven protections to plant nursery workers across Florida. Even if you are unable to attend the screening, you can still support the campaign by learning more about Planting Justice and signing the solidarity pledge for nursery workers.
