About this Event
Join The Witches of Scotland Podcast hosts Dr Zoe Venditozzi and Dr Claire Mitchell for a discussion and talk based on their new book How to K*ll a Witch with author CJ Cooke in a unique venue at one of Glasgow's oldest houses, where a previous resident once tried to take a woman to trial for witchcraft.
Scotland's witch trials were some of the most deadly in Europe, with 4,000 accused and up to 2,500 executed. Through their podcast Zoe and Claire have been investigating why the witch trials had such a hold on Scotland, why women made up the majority of executions and how to get them justice almost 300 years after the last witch was burned at the stake in 1727. Their new book weaves together stories from court transcripts, witness accounts and the documents that sanctioned the hunts to tell a tragic tale of a monumental injustice.
They will be discussing this history with CJ Cooke, who has written 16 books including The Lighthouse Witches, which was nominated for an Edgar Award and an ITW Thriller Award, and is soon to be a major TV series produced by StudioCanal and The Picture Company, and The Book of Witching which was released in October 2024 to critical acclaim.
Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about one of the darkest periods of women's history in Scotland, hosted in a haunted 15th century fortified mansion house.
