The modern term ‘Witchcraft’ is used to describe many different mystical and magical traditions, but each strain using the term today is itself a combination of various philosophical movements, from odd fertility cults to gnostic heresies, from the writings of alchemical wanderers to cadres of ceremonial magicians calling upon demons and angels with equal aplomb. Hermeticism is one of the most detailed and important strains of magical thought that influenced Witchcraft. With historical links to Egyptian priests, Greek philosophers, Persian magi, and Renaissance cunning folk, Hermeticism is one of the most pervasive forms of mysticism to flourish in Afro-Eurasia, yet centuries of religious wars and political posturing have hidden its more common lessons from the uninitiated.
Occultist and Co-Owner of Alchemy Works Anthony Teth will detail Hermeticism’s more nebulous philosophical concepts while showing just how important the Hermetic works were in influencing everything from world religions to modern science. Simultaneously, he will help to reveal just how entrenched its tendrils are within the history of Witchcraft itself.
