Wishbone Ash is gearing up for their “Wishlist Tour,” an interactive experience where fans choose the songs from across the band’s 50-year career. “I love the interactive element of this,” says Andy Powell, founding guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. “We have so many chapters, lineups, and flavors in our music. There’s more than 300 songs, and we continue to write new ones. It is fun to let the fans decide.” The band is using Set.Fan and social media platforms to gather song requests, which will shape their worldwide tour, starting with 30 shows in the UK this fall and 15 in America in November, with more dates in Europe and America to be announced for 2025.
Powell compares their career to a “smaller but global version of the Grateful Dead’s,” where fans discovered their music through word of mouth and a passionate fan community rather than radio. He enjoys the direct interaction with fans during VIP Experiences, sharing stories and hearing theirs. Powell notes, “Our concerts have become mini conventions for fans to interact with each other and the band. It’s very much a community.” Alongside the tour, fans can look forward to a special “Wishlist Tour” CD, a new BBC Sessions Box Set titled Surface to Air, a coffee table book, and a limited run of custom Andy Powell Flying V guitars crafted by Tatalias Guitars.
