There are 5 things you need to do to jump on board this event:
1. Book your ticket – tickets are $15 and covers the cost of the official canvas which is 20.3cm x 25.4cm (8x10”). There is a maximum of 3 canvases able to be purchased per individual artist. If you are purchasing for friends or family please make sure you register them separately under their own name.
2. Pick up your canvas – Canvases will be able to be collected so you can begin your creative journey on Saturday 1 November from 10-3pm. Please make sure you make arrangements for someone else to pick up your canvas should you not be able to pick it up yourself. Canvases will only be released if you have pre-purchased your ticket. If you live out of Cairns CBD please contact us to discuss how we can manage this pick up for you. Everyone else who is within the Cairns District – please pop in to Crate 59 and a friendly Crate artist will tick off your name against your purchased ticket and pass over your canvases to you.
3. Create your masterpiece – You may do anything you like to your canvas including building out from the surface. You may choose to adhere paper or nail wood over the surface of the stretched canvas. The only thing we ask is that you do not extend horizontally out of your landscape or portrait formatted canvas. This allows us to place works closely side by side to each other in order to fit so many works on to our gallery walls. In short, you can build up, down or out but do not extend out from the sides. Some artists may wish to make the canvas a free standing 3D sculpture to be viewed in the round – Crate will install these works on plinths for you. Please note that part of the creative challenge is how you have transformed your assigned canvas so please make sure that the canvas is fully utilised in the final submitted work.
4. Drop off your final work – Your final canvases need to be dropped off to Crate 59 on Sunday 23 November from 10-3pm. There will be a Crate resident artist there to collect your work and ensure the bidding slip is fully completed.
5. Turn up on Opening/Closing Night – The exhibition opens (and closes!) on the same night – Friday 12 December @6pm. At approximately 8pm, bidding is called to an end and artists are able to remove their works from the wall and finalise transactions with their top bidders. Please note that Crate will not complete any individual artists transactions. If you can not attend on opening/closing night, there will be an opportunity for you to come and collect your canvas again on Monday 15 December and you will have the bidding slip with the contact number of your highest bidder on the slip. This will allow you to make contact with them to complete the transaction.
