October 27-December 1, Sundays, 2-3:30pm (6 classes)An exploration of the life stories and teachings of the Buddha and the subsequent lineage holders of the Nyingma, Kagyu, and Shambhala traditions, along with that of the Ancestral Sovereigns, the benign monarchs who did their utmost to embody the teachings of the buddhadharma. Women important to these lineages will be highlighted.
Open to all, this series is based on the Buddhist Studies pre-seminary course "Lineage and Devotion," and is expanded to start with the study of the Buddha and to include ancestral sovereigns, Kagyu and Nyingma lineage holders, and inspiring women like the Buddha's aunt, Saraha's partner, Yeshe Tsogyal, and Machig. Using linear time as an organizer, we will explore the meaning of devotion and loyalty along the way--and see how far we get!
Participants in the course are welcome to share both their heartfelt understanding and research on the variety of these historic dharmic individuals, no two of which were exactly alike.
We will start each class with the Four Dharmas of Gampopa, the Seven Line Supplication, and the Kagyu Lineage Supplication and then sit for 5 minutes; and each class will end with both Dedications of Merit.
