WIP Lab Workshop: Boro Stitching Inspired Collage

Boro Stitching is a Japanese style of mending clothing. Using a running stitch, boro stitching applies scraps of fabric onto a garment to reinforce it with a variety of patterns. Using this method, participants will use boro stitching to create a textile collage. In the class students will learn also learn how to tie a quilters knot and discuss the importance of using what we have to reduce textile waste.

Shug Munic is a 1st year Design Studies MFA candidate. They are an interdisciplinary textile artist, educator, and community organizer. They use traditional sewing, quilting and other craft techniques to tell stories of devotion through the mundane. By using forgotten material and textile waste Shug recontextualizes themes of memory, gender, and intimacy amidst collapse.
