Join us for a special Winter Tree ID workshop The program is 3.5-hour class time going over key winter tree ID characteristics and differentiating key characteristics between genera. We will go through winter tree ID dichotomous key with collected twig samples representing 35 species. Then we will spend time in the field looking at full size specimens of varying ages of those covered in the in-class session as well as other species we come upon in the field

Key structural features
How to use a dichotomous key with photo/twig/fruit samples.
1:30 -3:00pm
Facilitated KEY based ID practice in groups then confirmation of ID with the whole class. Opportunity to discern between species in the same family or genus based on key features using samples of twigs and fruit when possible.
3:00 -4:00pm
Field ID of species studied in class to address bark pattern and whole tree form.
Restroom breaks will be as needed. The order of sessions may change slightly due to weather, but all topic durations will remain the same.
We expect this program to be worth 2 ISA CEU’s and we are applying for OISC CCH’s for pesticide applicators.

Crown Hill Cemetery and Arboretum.
Participants Should dress for the weather including study waterproof/resistant footwear. Class will be a combination of indoor and outdoor sessions. This workshop is a collaboration between the Indiana Arborist Association and the Crown Hill Arboretum.
