In partnership with The Studio Ligaya, and Future Ancestors, The Filipino School of New York & New Jersey is excited to finally launch our Sayawan Na! Philippine Cultural Dance Program in Middlesex County, NJ!
Enrollment is now open for our Winter/Spring 2026 Sayawan Na! Middlesex County Philippine Cultural Dance Program. Sign-up soon as space is limited. Ages 6 and up.
Our winter/spring program will meet once a week where students will learn the background, history, culture and steps to various Philippine folk dances. At the end of the semester, there will be a culminating cultural performance and graduation ceremony in front of students’ families (Sunday, May 3). Classes will be taught by seasoned and experienced instructors. Our instructors for this program are Krizia Ramos and Marites Mallari.
Some of the dances our students have learned in the past include: Tinikling, Kuratsa, Salip, Bumayah, Itik-Itik, Malong, Pasigin, Subli, Bulaklakan, Maglalatik, Sakuting, Polkabol, Binasuan, Pandanggo Sa Ilaw and Bulaklakan!
In recent years, our students have also performed at several events which include the annual Filipino Heritage Day with the NJ Devils and the Brooklyn Nets, PAFCOM Annual Parade and Festival, PDOC Philippine Day Parade and Festival, United Nations, Simbang Gabi at St. John’s Church, the annual Philippine Independence Day Parade cultural showcase in NYC, New York Asian Film Festival, SMA Fathers annual Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo, a taping for Makilala TV, Filipino American Festival, Inc., Bergenfield Public Library, Orchard Elementary School, Our Lady of Pompeii’s Santacruzan Festival, Church of the Ascension’s Queenship of Mary, PACCAL’s “A Barrio Fiesta Musical”, The Dalton School’s Multicultural Festival and Stony Brook University’s annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival.

Cost:
$300 for the semester, INCLUDES a $30 non-refundable registration fee. A 10% sibling discount on tuition is also available. (This covers the cost of space rental, instructor salaries, maintenance and care of costumes and props, program supplies, insurance, and other incidentals.)
Students will also be responsible for purchasing leggings, leotards, under shirts, tank tops, black pants (males), and hair pins/nets for final performance.
Payment can be made by cash, check (made payable to: The Filipino School of New York and New Jersey), Venmo (FilSchoolNYNJ) or Zelle ([email protected]). (Note: When using Venmo and selecting "Paying for a good or service", please add an additional 3% to the total amount". If you do not select "Paying for a good or service", then no additional transaction fees need to be added.)
