Join us for an evening with Andante Vineyard as owners Joe Allan and Karen Saul share how their vineyard began and how it fits into the larger story of wine making in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
In 2009, Joe and Karen found a 42 acre property in Polk County that would eventually become Andante Vineyard. The land had not been farmed in decades and came with its challenges, including steep slopes and shallow soils. Because the site was close to an established vineyard, they had the soil tested and discovered it was well suited for wine grapes. They planted a few acres, began taking classes in viticulture at Chemeketa Community College, and continued building their knowledge through hands on experience.
What started as a dream slowly grew into a fully established vineyard, winery, and tasting room with outdoor seating and a pizza oven.
This talk offers a behind the scenes look at the realities of starting a vineyard, the role of education and experimentation, and the rich agricultural history that has helped shape the Willamette Valley into one of the world’s premier wine growing regions. Whether you are interested in local history, agriculture, or simply enjoy a good story, this evening promises insight and inspiration.
