Winter Solstice is a time for celebration. A time to look back on the past year and reflect on what we have accomplished and achieved. A time to rest and spend time with family and friends.
We will begin by making our own Pomander Balls. A Pomander is a fragrant ornament made from a piece of fruit, that is studded with whole cloves. It is a traditional craft that creates a pleasant, spicy aroma as the fruit dries. Originally, pomanders were used for personal protection against illness, but today they are most often made as holiday decorations for the home
We will then move into the Despacho Ceremony. This is a traditional group prayer ceremony that comes from the Q'ero people of the High Andes Mountians of Peru.
A Despacho is a beautiful and fun way to bring "Ayni" or reciprocity, balance and harmony between us and the natural world. It is used as a way to send gratitude and give offerings to our Mother Earth, Pachamama.
We will set intentions, pray for ourselves and our loved ones and create a beautiful mandala together.
Make sure to bring your offerings
to contribute to the Despacho (natural materials, stones, shells, incense, food, candy, flowers, plants make great offerings).
After we build the Despacho together and close it up, we will then bring it outside and burn it to transmute energy. Fire is a great way to clear, cleanse and release.
