The day after the winter solstice signifies the beginning of longer days, marking a symbolic "return of the light" as the hours of daylight gradually increase following the shortest day of the year; it represents a turning point towards more sunlight and the start of the gradual progression towards spring.
Many cultures celebrate this day as a time of renewal and new beginnings, signifying the return of light after the darkest period.
Dec. 22nd is the anniversary of Ram Dass leaving his physical body. This dance has been created to honor the life of Ram Dass and to celebrate the winter solstice.
Event will take place at Wildlight Yoga, event space is on the third floor of the building.
Nobody is turned away for lack of funds, please contact Kohl if you do not have the funds to attend. Kids are free to the event. This is a family friendly dance and there will be young kids joining in on the dance and kids are encouraged to join.
Doors open at 2:00. There will be an opening practice held by Stephanie Rae. Following will be the opening circle with discussion of guidelines and community engagement.
The opening circle will be led by DJ Big Heart❤️ (aka Kohl Mayberry). After the opening circle will be the dance music.
Music will be shared by both DJ Ania Hata and DJ Big Heart❤️ with back to back sets.
The music is set in a wave format inviting everyone to experience different states, moods, and levels of consciousness. Consider staying present within the movement and letting your body move to the music. Ecstatic dance is a freeform focused movement practice for all. During our dance we will be invited to let go of judgement of ourselves and others, embrace whatever emotions arise, and feel free to move, shake, and groove however our bodies choose. We are invited to listen to our bodies and move in any way that we feel is authentic, safe, and personal for us. The dance space is free of consumption of alcohol and intoxicating substances as this creates a sober environment inviting dancers to come as they are. We step out of verbal conversation as well as the use of any cell phones or photography. During our dance we are silent/no talking (please have verbal conversations outside of the dance floor, thank you for your understanding).
When the music ends it will be followed by a sound healing offered by Yolanda Lozano.
Immediately following will be the community closing circle led by Kohl.
As always-peace, much love, namaste.
