About this Event
AQ’AB’AL WINTER SOLSTICE CACAO & KIRTAN FIRE CEREMONY
The Maya tracked the movements of the moon, sun, and planets to develop one of the most accurate calendar systems in human history. In the Maya cosmovision, every day has a specific energy which provides guidance for daily life based on the cosmic-earthly rhythm.
There are 20 energies of the sacred Maya Cholq’ij day-count (calendar), each day is represented by a number and a Nawal (energy of the cosmos and nature). Attuning to the specific energy of the Nawales provides reflection on how to be a better person, community member, and steward for our planet.
This WINTER SOLSTICE we celebrate 6 AQ’AB’AL, representing DARK & LIGHT, DUALITY & CONCEPTION. Aq’ab’al is two opposing and harmonious energies; the darkest time of night and the first ray of sunlight. It represents a renewing force, letting go of the reins and heading in a new direction.
Aq’ab’al is a strong sacred day for ceremony to ask Ajaw, the Creator for humility and blessings. Cosmically it is a day to forgive our ancestors, to open your heart to ancestral wisdom & relationships in all parts of life, to bask in and honour the beauty of feminine and masculine energies that exist within and without. A good day to dialogue with our own light and darkness, our joys and fears.
NUMBER 6 (WAGI) - is the number of the vitality of the family, representing six key aspects of family life: health, understanding, employment, friendship, property and actions. Each of these aspects is interlinked and if one is out of balance, the family suffers. We see the ultimate stability of 6 in things such as the honeycomb and benzene ring. Six also means to process the energy of life. The building blocks of stability.
Since ancient times, the Maya have held a special interconnected relationship with the sacred medicine of Cacao. With it’s usage and practices once forbidden by the Conquistadors, it has withstood the test of time, despite almost being driven to extinction. Our ancestors understood the value of cacao and it’s monumental benefits for health, spirituality, community, the land and connection to the unseen worlds.
Cacao connects us with the world beyond form where everything is possible.
By taking this sacred medicine our hearts open and our consciousness expands, we connect with our emotions deeply and we are able to release from a place of compassion and love.
Fire is the main medicine of the Maya. We shall make offerings to Abuelo Fuego (Grandfather Fire) as he listens, purifies, heals, receives, transforms, cleans, forgives and helps us to call peace into our souls. This form of conscious offering is a way to give thanks for everything we receive each day.
Our intentions for this next cycle will be greatly amplified by sound and our collective voice as we are led into Kirtan (devotional chanting) by the wonderful Imajane, recalibrating our vibrational essence and sending our prayers out into the heart of the Earth and the heart of the Sky.
The Maya spoke of a prophecy that the spirit of cacao would weave her way all over the world at a time when Earth’s children had forgotten themselves and were living in separation from their true essence (LOVE), in separation from each other, in war and hatred and separation from the Earth, destroying their Mother and home. The prophecies say she will make her way into every home and heart to awaken remembrance of divine truth.
I believe we are living that prophecy now as we birth the New Earth through our embodied living, Cacao has come to be our ally to awaken our hearts to our truth, to help us heal & walk in right relationship with self, each other & our Great Cosmic Mother.
Be with us at this incredible time on our Planet to give thanks for the returning light and also for the darkness from where all things are born.
A ceremony to remember that we are beings of love that came to fulfill a mission on Earth.
