JOIN US for a free, in-person class to learn about winter seed sowing, on Wed. Jan 28, 6:30 pm, at Stillwater Public Library.Native seeds, such as milkweed, Black-eyed Susan, and Prairie dropseed, are planted in mini-greenhouses during the months of January and February. They are placed outside in the sun and snow where the elements of winter will break the seed dormancy. This encourages the seeds to sprout in the spring. The young seedlings should be ready to transplant into your garden when the outside temperatures stay consistently warm.
Participants will sow two containers, each with two different types of seeds. Please bring two tall containers that are clear, or allow light to shine through, for example milk, juice, and distilled water jugs. You are welcome to bring your own gloves, scissors or box-cutter, and a black “garden” marker. All other supplies will be provided including soil and seeds that are locally harvested by master gardeners!
