Winter is a wonderful time of the year here at Djaning, and we have an exciting school holiday program ready for your little adventurers!
Monday - Friday 8-12 July, 10am-3pm
Suitable for ages 6 and up.
Taking bookings now!
Our week will run as follows:
Monday July 8 - Clay Fun
Using a combination of modern and traditional clay making techniques, we have created a magical space for unleashing your creativity and crafting unique clay creations, be it on the wheel or free-style. Whether your little one shows an interest in sculpting, creating adorable animals, molding pots with intricate designs, or exploring the realm of the extraordinary, our clay-making journey knows no bounds!
Tuesday July 9 - Cubby & Shelter Building
Join us for a day of building our very own cubbies and shelters by the shores of Ternia Creek. During this exciting event, children will have the unique opportunity to explore various building techniques, such as creating sturdy structures using branches, leaves, and other natural materials. Our experienced instructors will guide them through the process, fostering a hands-on learning experience that encourages creativity and problem-solving skills. As the little ones work together, they will not only construct their own cozy spaces but also develop a sense of teamwork and collaboration.
Wednesday July 10 - Fire Skills and Food
Kids of all ages will have the unique opportunity to safely learn how to start and maintain a fire for cooking. Using a variety of cooking tools such as grills, camp ovens, and their own carved and crafted sticks, they will not only master the art of fire-making, but also get to create delicious treats. From making traditional damper to roasting fresh apples, and even trying their hand at baking a cake, this hands-on experience will surely ignite their passion for outdoor cooking.
Thursday July 11 - Bows Arrows and Archery
Make your very own simple bow using basic materials. You'll get to select your piece of wood from the forest, cut it, then shape it into your very own bow. It's a hands-on experience that allows you to connect with nature and learn traditional crafting techniques. After crafting your bow, we'll then follow a similar process for arrows, carefully selecting the right wood and "feather fletchings". Once the bow and arrows are decorated and complete, we will practice on targets, honing our skills and enjoying the satisfaction of using equipment we've crafted ourselves.
Friday July 12 - Tracking & Survival Skills
On our tracking and survival skills day, we will embark on an exciting journey of discovery and adventure. As we venture around 'Djaning', we will sharpen our sneaking abilities and immerse ourselves in the beauty of our local wildlife. Through the use of cleverly crafted 'sand pit traps' strategically placed the night before, we will have the opportunity to observe and understand the behavior and tracks of the diverse wildlife that inhabits our area. Our exploration will extend to learning about various scats and 'signs of life', and their significance within the ecosystem.
Following this immersive wildlife experience, we will delve into the world of survival, learning essential skills such as constructing shelters, creating fire, sourcing food, and finding safe drinking water. Additionally, we will have the unique opportunity to carve our very own spears and put them to the test in the nearby creek, honing our primitive hunting skills in a safe and controlled environment.
All days run 10am until 3pm, $60 per day (discount for full 5 day booking)
Earlier drop off/pick up available at aditional cost
