All original Ballet Memphis works, all in one night, Winter Mix is our annual signature repertory event. This season, choreographers explore different modes of storytelling with a variety of choreographic structures and aesthetics to create original works. Returning audience favorite Fingers of Your Thoughts by Julia Adam was commissioned in 2009. A uniquely sensitive dancemaker, Julia uses hands as a metaphor for the stages of life, combined with an inventive use of props, music, and the words of some of the world's greatest writers. Company Dancer Emilia Sandoval continues to develop her choreographic voice by exploring how poetry, written and spoken word can be used to create entirely new forms of dance storytelling, and commissioning her first score with artists from UNAPOLOGETIC. Artistic Director Steven McMahon will round out the experience with a new work inspired by the foundation for much of Western society's literature and art—the great Greek myths—as told through the eyes of 1950s Hollywood.
