Presenter and Training Information:

Dual Language Learners with Mirna Mejia from Las Vegas Urban League

Have you ever wondered how young children learn to speak a new language? This training will review the stages of home language development and introduce the periods of development of an additional language learner. Our audience will find the information in this training beneficial by obtaining a greater understanding of dual language learners in their classroom as well as learning strategies to better support them as they learn a second language while maintaining their home language.

Reducing Sedentary Behavior with Susan Taylor From UNR Extension

This training teaches child care centers and preschool teachers about sedentary behavior and screen time. Learn how to reduce sedentary time and provide a program of physical activity that will include any specialized plans for children with disabilities. Discusses how to avoid using physical activity for behavior management. After the training you will be able to teach your preschool children simple dances which include the Pre-Kindergarten physical development standards to help them become competent and confident in their fundamental movement skills such as jumping, hopping, spinning, and being able to move forward and backward.

Process vs. Product and Sensational Experiences with Danielle Holmes From The Children’s Cabinet

Participants will define and recognize product art and process art, understand the importance of process oriented art, and why allowing children to experience the process vs. focusing on the product is beneficial to their learning and development. We will also discuss how children learn and why sensory activities are crucial to development. We will explore the five senses and sensory avoidance and sensory seeking behaviors while relating the information to how we plan learning centers and activities for children.
