Speaker: Dr. Wendy Anderson

Stetson University

Professor and Chair of Environmental Science and Studies

Director of Sustainable Food Systems Program

Biography:

Dr. Wendy Anderson is a professor and chair of the Department of Environmental Science and Studies and the Director of the Sustainable Food Systems Program at Stetson University. As an ecosystem ecologist for over 30 years, she has published numerous articles and in several books on regional perspectives on nutrient movements across land-water interfaces. However, since moving to Florida in 2014, she shifted her focus from studying the basic ecological functions of islands in the Gulf of California, Mexico, the San Juan Islands of Washington state, and spoil islands in Florida's Mosquito Lagoon to the pressing concerns in Florida over nutrient pollution in both inland and coastal waterways. In addition to her leadership roles at Stetson, she is also elected to Volusia County's Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors, and, in that capacity, works with local governments and not-for-profit organizations to implement policies and practices for Low Impact Development and Green Stormwater Infrastructure. In this and many other roles, she brings science to the general public and informs those who make decisions about land use change that will have lasting impacts on the health of Florida's environment and people.
