Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor
Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 37, premiered in 1803 with the composer himself at the piano, is a bold and dramatic work that showcases the transition from Classical to Romantic styles. Its striking contrasts, lyrical slow movement, and fiery finale reveal Beethoven’s unparalleled ability to blend technical brilliance with profound emotion. Historically, this concerto marked a pivotal moment in Beethoven’s career as he began asserting his own musical identity, moving away from the influences of Mozart and Haydn. It remains a cornerstone of the piano concerto repertoire.
Farrenc’s Symphony No. 3 in G Minor
Louis Farrenc, a trailblazing 19th-century French composer, was celebrated in her time as both a virtuoso pianist and a respected professor at the Paris Conservatoire, where she taught for over 30 years. Her Symphony No. 3 in G Minor, completed in 1847, is a work of remarkable craftsmanship and emotional depth, combining classical structure with Romantic expressiveness. Despite her acclaim, Farrenc’s music fell into obscurity after her death because she self-published her works, making them difficult to access. Today, her music is enjoying a well-deserved revival, highlighting her significant contributions to the symphonic tradition.
Guest Pianist: Tyler Reed
We are thrilled to feature Tyler Reed, the 2024 Gold Prizewinner of the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey, One-Movement Concerto Division. At just 16 years old, Tyler has already earned numerous accolades, including top prizes in the New Jersey Music Teachers Awards, Russian Music Competition, and Apex International Music Competition. His performances have graced prestigious venues such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and the St. Nicolò Auditorium in Italy, where he recently performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Orchestra Sinfonica del Festival di Chioggia. Tyler is a dedicated musician who has been studying with the renowned Lana Ivanov since 2021. Be sure not to miss this young musician's much anticipated performance of Beethoven's famed Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor. Tyler’s artistry and passion promise to make this an unforgettable experience!
