Winnie M Li’s latest novel What We Left Unsaid reconsiders the Great American Road Trip from the perspective of people of colour and uses the story of a single family to reflect on the political, economic and ideological divisions shaping contemporary America, and the possibility of reconciliation.
Winnie M Li is an American author, activist, and educator, and Assistant Professor in Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham. A former film producer, her debut novel Dark Chapter won The Guardian’s Not The Booker Prize, was nominated for an Edgar Award, and translated into ten languages. She has recently adapted it for the screen, funded by Northern Ireland Screen and the British Film Institute. Her follow-up Complicit was a New York Times Editors’ Choice and shortlisted for the Royal Society of Literature’s Encore Award.
A Harvard graduate, Winnie’s work explores gender and racial inequality, trauma, and displacement.
