From the volcanic soils of Campania and Basilicata to the sun-drenched vineyards of Calabria and Puglia, Southern Italy produces wines that tell extraordinary stories of place, tradition, and native grapes.
Join Istituto Mondo Italiano for an intimate afternoon of wine, food, and discovery with Maria Christina Liotta, author of Places of Origin: Wines of Southern Italy — Campania, Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia.
Maria Christina will guide us through five carefully selected Southern Italian wines, sharing the territories, indigenous grape varieties, producers, and traditions behind each bottle.
But we won't be exploring Southern Italy through the glass alone.
Each wine will be accompanied by a small regional food pairing prepared by Istituto Mondo Italiano, inspired by the culinary traditions of the area from which the wine comes. Together, wine and food will take us on a journey from Calabria to Campania, Basilicata and Puglia.
This is not simply a wine tasting. It is an opportunity to understand why these wines taste the way they do—and how geography, food, history and local traditions are all connected.
With only 35 guests, the afternoon is intentionally intimate, leaving plenty of time to taste, learn, converse and enjoy.

Maria Christina Liotta is the author of Places of Origin: Wines of Southern Italy, an extraordinary 708-page exploration of the wines and wine regions of Campania, Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia. A Certified Specialist of Wine, WSET Level 3 and Italian Wine Scholar with Highest Honors, she has spent years traveling through Southern Italy documenting its native grapes, appellations, producers and winemaking traditions.
