About this Event
Join Liz's Book Bar for an evening of wine and education. This tasting class explores rosé, orange wine, co-ferments, and other wines that color outside of the lines.
From Peak Rosé to orange wine's rebirth, the color of the wine in our glass attracts trend pieces, memes, and endless cultural discourse about what you drink and what it says about the sort of person who would drink it.
But how does wine end up pink, or golden, or brick-colored, or bronze, anyway? Why was white wine thought superior to red in the Middle Ages, and why was Italian pinot grigio orange until the 1970s? What does color actually tell us about what something will taste like, or what we might want to do with it — whether that's pairing it with a food or to a moment?
In one sense, color is really just a way to talk about the different ways people have thought a "good" wine should be. And in a shoulder season like spring, wines that slip between categories can be the most rewarding answer to unpredictable weather and unstable vibes.
Our class is hosted by sommelier James Sligh, founder of the Children's Atlas of Wine, an art and education project that maps the people and places growing wine's futures and puts them in context. Tickets include five tastes of colorful wines and an hour and a half class with an interactive component.
