About this Event
An Evening with Beth Brookhart — The Four Queens of the Buttonbush Museum
Thursday, February 26, 2026 · 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Kern County Museum · Standard School Building
Tickets: $50
On February 26, the Kern Literacy Council invites you to an evening of literature and community at the Kern County Museum. Hosted inside the beautifully preserved Standard School building, this special event offers an intimate setting for conversation, storytelling, and connection in one of Kern County’s most historic spaces.
The evening will feature author Beth Brookhart, who will discuss her debut novel, The Four Queens of the Buttonbush Museum. Set in 1950s California, the novel tells the story of four determined women fighting to save a struggling local museum, blending humor, heart, and a sharp look at power, preservation, and recognition. Inspired by Beth’s years of museum board service and background in journalism, the story brings authenticity and wit to a richly imagined past.
Guests will enjoy appetizers and drinks as they settle into the historic space before hearing Beth read from her novel and speak about her writing journey and the real-world experiences that shaped the story. A moderated question-and-answer session will follow, offering insight into the book’s themes, characters, and creative process.
Following the program, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Beth Brookhart, purchase copies of The Four Queens of the Buttonbush Museum, have books signed, and enjoy conversation with fellow guests. With wine in hand and light bites throughout the evening, the Standard School building becomes a gathering place where history, literature, and community intersect.
Tickets are $50 and include appetizers and drinks. Doors open at 5:30 PM, with the program beginning at 6:00 PM. Proceeds support the Kern Literacy Council, which has provided free literacy tutoring and education programs across Kern County since 1966.
Space is limited. Reserve your ticket today and be part of an evening where stories, history, and community come together.
