About this Event
Slavic Refugee and Immigrant Services Organization, a nonprofit organization, helps Ukrainian refugees in San Diego thrive by providing mental health support, food, housing, English learning, career support and social activities to get them familiar with San Diego.
We are starting a series of paint night fundraisers with the first one on Valentine’s Day. Come with a friend, partner, family member or by yourself and have fun making paint with some wine, snacks and Ukrainian music.
Proceeds will go towards our programs as well as funding our artist, Kremena Lefterova.
Date: Friday, February 14
Time: 6:00-8:00 PM
Location: Creative Academy of San Diego in Liberty Station (2785 Truxton Road, San Diego, CA 92106)
About the Artist:
Kremena Lefterova is a New Jersey-based mixed-media artist originally from Bulgaria, who has fully devoted herself to artmaking since 2011. Though her formal career began later, her diverse background in industrial design, fine art, and creative professions has greatly shaped her artistic vision. From crafting custom cakes and headpieces to designing for television and commercials, Kremena's path has been anything but conventional. Her time living and working in Asia sparked a deep passion for fantastical ceramic and porcelain sculptures, an interest that has evolved into her current practice.
Kremena's sculptures are whimsical, dreamlike, and often fantastical—depicting human, animal, and insect forms. Works like The Beginning of Earth and The Prince Eager to be Kissed embody her signature surreal style, blending elements of fairytales and myths with a touch of dark humor. Her creatures, with their interlocking, multi-part bodies and expressive faces, invite viewers to explore the emotional depth and human-like essence within each figure. These pieces—both sculptural and on paper—are a rich reflection of Kremena’s multifaceted life and artistic evolution.
