Willowdale Steeplechase Founder and Race Chairman Dixon Stroud will once again host an entertaining and educational walk of the beautiful Willowdale Steeplechase racecourse on Wednesday, May 8. Anyone who would like to attend should meet at the Tower on the racecourse just before 5:00 pm. Enter through Gate 4 on Route 82.The course walk is perfect preparation for those who want to be in the know on race day- which is Saturday, May 11!
This will be an up-close look at the fences with lots of fun facts and answers to questions about the sport of steeplechasing and how the jumps are designed. Dixon wanted people to experience steeplechasing the way they do in Europe, so he had the timber course designed by an Irishman, Hugh Morshead, who replicated some of the European hedge jumps to combine with the timber fences.
