About this Event
Willow weaving workshop on the beautiful Nottingham Organic gardeners demonstration plot. Experience the delights of creating a support for climbing plants like sweet peas or green beans out of naturally grown willow. Come with enough space to transport your work home (or walk and bike your creations home) and plant up your creation into a pot or straight into the ground.
THE COURSE WILL GIVE YOU
Ability to make a variety of items for the home from willow
Knowledge on how to select suitable materials
Understanding of how to grade, dry, store and soak willow
Knowledge about the ecological credentials of willow
Your own willow sculpture to take home for your plants to grow up or just as a feature!
THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR
Those with some manual dexterity, hand strength and patience!
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR
Apron/suitable work gardening clothes, plus waterproofs/sun hat. This course will take place in our outdoor garden there is a polytunnel and a cabin with a veranda for some shelter in the event of British weather.
Sharp secateurs if possible! We will provide some but your own tools are welcome.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Emma Parkins specialises in willow weaving and sculpture. She is highly skilled at making objects from sustainable willow and foraged hedgerow materials. These natural, biodegradable, little gems reflect the biodiversity of our countryside hedges and range in colour, texture and form. As an experienced workshop leader, she is passionate about sharing her love of willow crafts.
Capacity: The maximum group size will be 12 people

Address of the plot is - Whitemoor Allotments, Wilkinson Street, Nottingham, NG8 5FJ. Entrance to the garden in the big lay-by on Wilkinson Street, opposite Heslington Ave. We will be at the gate 5 mins before the workshop starts to guide you if you have not been before.
This is a practical workshop so please wear sensible footwear and clothing for the time of year.
We do have a polytunnel and cabin (plus pop up gazebo) so even if it rains there is shelter and we will still run the session.
