About this Event
The Willow Creek Jasper Mine trip is led by Steve Schaps, Idaho Museum of Mining and Geology, and is limited to 20 people . IMMG MEMBERS are totally free. One free field trip for new members. $20 plus Eventbrite fee for nonmembers, $5 for nonmember kids.
--Steve will meet the group at the Little Gulch Parking area no later than 9am sharp where he will conduct a mandatory safety meeting, have everyone sign waivers, and organize the carpools into 4WD/High Clearance Vehicles.
Directions:
The Little Gulch Parking area is a big flat sandy parking area on the right side of Willow Creek Road 3.3 Miles North of Beacon Light. It is large and obvious. It does not have an address and is not in Google Maps or any mapping software. So just take Hwy 55 North from Eagle, Turn Left on Beacon Light and then turn Right on Willow Creek Road which is the same thing as Eagle Road and go 3.3 Miles and turn into the large dirt parking area.
--Steve has approval from Avimor for motor vehicle access on the specific dates of this field trip as long as weather permits (no muddy roads).
--1st and 2nd stops will be at Willow Creek Canyon overlook and Sue Newbie Memorial Cross. These will be short stops-30 minutes each before we come to the mine by Noon.
--At the mine Steve will give a short geologic overview. Larry can talk about the mining process and the jasper and thunder eggs.
This should be a fun and exciting field trip for people.
The field trip is led by retired Geophysicist Steve Schaps, and with the permission of mine owner Larry Ridley and the offset property owner, Avimor.
