Wildlife Wednesday at Treehaven: Black Bears

Discover wildlife that calls Wisconsin's Northwoods home through Wildlife Wednesdays at Treehaven! Join us monthly for this FREE all-ages program series, and explore the natural history of each month's focus animal through presentations, interactive activities, guided walks, and/or specimen observation. From fur to feathers, woods to water, predator to prey, and more, experience the diversity of the animal world right outside our windows!

Since the 1970s, students and faculty of the UW - Stevens Point College of Natural Resources have worked to document the ecology and life history of black bears in northern Wisconsin as part of the Stephens Family Foundation Wisconsin Black Bear Research Project. Join UWSP students currently involved with the project for an educational and engaging talk on their research methods and discoveries, including data collected right here at Treehaven. Observe and explore GPS collars, telemetry equipment, and den processing tools as you learn the benefits this work provides to our understanding of black bears in the state!

Meet at the main entrance (double doors with Treehaven sign). Doors will open at 4:20 PM, talk begins at 4:30 PM. This is a seated, indoor presentation that will take place in the upper auditorium, Room 200. All ages welcome, but some scientific details may be best understood by learners 13 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
