Want to do some good and help natives flourish in your local backyard? We have the event for you! Close to home on the Kelvin Heights Peninsula. Our good friends over at the Wakatipu Reforestation Trust along with the Kelvin Peninsula Community Association are controlling wilding pines in Jardine Park and we're seeking volunteers to help out! ????Where? Jardine Park, Kelvin Heights Peninsula
?When? Saturday, 11 May 2024 | 10am - 2pm
The awesome team at the Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa are generously providing our volunteers and the team with morning tea and snacks! ??☕
You can make a difference and assist in protecting our native flora from invasive pests by hand pulling and lopping pest wilding seedlings before they take over. ?
The aim for this event is to protect the native seedlings growing at the Whakatipu Reforestation Trust's 'Jean Malpas Community Nursery' in Jardine Park where native plants are lovingly produced to be replanted around the Whakatipu.
?When: Saturday 11th May at 10.00am in Jardine Park.
?Where to meet: Meet the team onsite (see map).
?Don’t have a lift to Kelvin Heights? Contact us, we may be able to help.
?What to bring: Some sturdy footwear (think hiking boots), weather protection (wind, rain, and sun), a light packed lunch, lots of water, and your smile!
?Who is it suitable for: Anyone with a reasonable level of fitness, who can navigate unstable ground and use a pair of loppers. This is a great opportunity for some family fun! We have a lovely level site (a rarity for wilding pine control! ?)
?How long does it go on for? Plan on being there from 10.00am until about 2pm.
?What’s provided: We have high vis vests, hand tools, and gloves (please bring your own if you have them).
