About this Event

This area of Kent has one of the highest densities of nightingale in the country, and Faggs Woods is an ideal place to try and hear them. Managed by Kent Wildlife Trust for several decades, this ancient woodland isn't generally accessible, making it a haven for songbirds.

The reserve's warden will guide you on a walk through the woodland, taking you to the best locations to listen for nightingale and other songbirds. We will stop in the woods to light a fire, boil a kettle and roast marshmallows as the sun sets, all whilst being serenaded by one of nature’s best vocalists.

This safari is aimed at an adult audience, 14-17 year olds may attend with an accompanying adult over 18. Hoping to bring the children? Family Wildlife Watch Safaris are available during school holidays, see https://www.kentwildlifetrust.org.uk/safaris for availability.

This safari will last approximately 2 hours and much of the time will be spent walking or standing. Much of the route follows surfaced paths, but these can be muddy. Ensure you wear sturdy footwear (during periods of wet weather waterproof footwear is advisable) and clothing suitable for the weather conditions.

Please note there are no toilet facilities at the reserve, and no refreshments are available to purchase on site. Campfire drinks and snacks will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own food and drink with you. A bottle of water is recommended.
