Performed by the award-winning actor Gerard Logan, Wilde Without the Boy is Gareth Armstrong’s staging of Oscar Wilde's De Profundis, the brilliant, searingly-honest letter Wilde wrote to his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, from Reading Gaol between January and March 1897 close to the end of his imprisonment.
In De Profundis, Wilde recounts his previous relationship with Douglas and the reckless, extravagant lifestyle which reduced him from from artistic and intellectual icon to a prison sentence of two years’ hard labour for acts of gross indecency.
Post-interval, Logan performs Wilde's stunning poem, The Ballad of Reading Gaol, about a soldier’s execution for the murder of his wife. It is underscored by a beautiful, original and specially-commissioned score by the award-winning composer, Simon Slater.
Gerard Logan is an Olivier-nominee and previous winner of The Stage Best Solo Actor at the Edinburgh Festival.
