Discover Your Hidden Neighbours: An Evening with Dr Katarina MikacHave you ever wondered what moves through your property under the cover of darkness? Our region—stretching from Robertson and Kangaloon to the Illawarra Escarpment—supports a fascinating mix of native wildlife, including the threatened spotted-tailed quoll and a range of gliding possums. These animals are rarely seen, but they’re very much part of the landscape we share.
We’re delighted to invite you to a special presentation, “Wild Neighbours: Discovering the Secret Wildlife on Your Land,” with Dr Katarina Mikac from the University of Wollongong’s Team Quoll. Dr Mikac is an expert in ecological monitoring and has extensive experience using camera traps to better understand elusive wildlife and how it uses the bush, paddocks, and the edges in between.
On the night, Dr Mikac will share:
What wildlife is likely to be living nearby (and why we so rarely see it)
The details of the Wild Neighbours project and the plan to deploy motion-sensing cameras to reveal the secret lives of nocturnal animals in the Robertson/Illawarra Escarpment area.
Practical, property-friendly ways to support habitat—especially around shelter, food, and safe movement through the landscape
Time for questions and discussion
