June 19th at Moon Tower Cider
A new exhibition by Leah Dorrian and Trentbar opens on Saturday, June 19th at the Moontower Cider Co. in east Austin. The show will feature their ‘Wild Beauty’ collection, a series of paintings and digital illustrations inspired by the wildness of nature, and the innate beauty of the microcosm and macrocosm of the universe. The exhibit is free and open to everyone from 12-9pm on Saturday, and from 8am-7pm on Sunday.
Leah and Trent create dazzling visuals of complementary subjects using their own distinctive style. Trentbar’s digital illustrations depict spiritual realms through mythical creatures of light and color. He draws inspiration from nature and the cosmos, and channels this love into soulful visual stories that hold ancient knowledge. The illustrations serve as pictorial representations of meditative realities. Utilizing metaphors in his work, he brings light to “the soul within, providing a reflection of how powerful it is to be human.” Leah’s oil & acrylic paintings include vast and whimsical landscapes, native southwestern botanical art, and rich symbolism of the divine feminine figure. Her pieces emanate warmth and magic, highlighting “the harmony created by the orchestra of nature.” She explores the wild energy of nature through each subject, and “invites the viewer to contemplate the profound wonders and mysteries of the great outdoors, as well as our responsibilities as stewards of the earth.”
The event space, Moontower Cider Co., boasts a bright, modern tasting room and a canopied outdoor garden with lots of seating. Visitors may sip on an exclusively designed cider can by Leah and Trent while viewing dozens of original artworks. A full gift shop with customized items by the two artists will be on-site as well, including everything from fine art prints and dharma art books to painted vintage denim and skateboards.
Leah Dorrian was born and raised in Maryland, where she grew up surrounded by nature and animals. Her classical training as an artist began at age 6 and continued throughout her adolescence into high school at the Arts and Communications Academy of Maryland. As a young adult, she studied yoga, fine art, graphic design, and environmental sustainability at the University of Maryland, BC. After graduating with a BA degree in graphic design, Leah road-tripped across the U.S. to paint ‘en Plein air’ in various National Parks. Afterwards, she moved to Austin, where she began exhibiting artwork in various galleries and country clubs. In her artistic endeavors, she aims to weave the importance of empowered feminine energy, environmental and wildlife protection, and the value of maintaining curiosity and a sense of wonder for the spirit of life.
Trentbar was born and raised in Northern Virginia. Growing up, he spent his summers at his grandparent's farm where he cultivated a deep admiration for the cycles of nature. This interest carried into artistic expression, as he began to draw characters and animals that dwelled in vibrant worlds. At age 17, he began his studies at the Art Institute of Washington, graduating with a BA degree in graphic design. After school, he continued his passion for art, expanding into spiritual fields such as lucid dreaming, forms of yoga and meditation, and channeling. This inspired him to use the ideas of communication found in his design work, and incorporate them with spiritual exploration. Today, Trent is an author of two books, and channels artwork that speaks to the deep wisdom we hold as spiritual beings, using art and poetry to convey ideas that exist inter-dimensionally to help expand how we see ourselves.
Leah and Trent are both artists and graphic designers, now living and working in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. When the two met, Leah was living in Austin and Trent was in Maryland. Their love story began as an art trade and has blossomed into a collaborative artistic union.
